LiveWIRE Entrepreneur participates in brainstorming activity

LiveWIRE programmes are part of a global network with each country putting its own stamp on LiveWIRE. Our LiveWIRE Brazil programme, for instance, uses a LiveWIRE weekend to recruit its next cohort. Meanwhile, LiveWIRE Trinidad & Tobago used this weekend to bring their 2020 cohort together for the first time.

“Shell Trinidad and Tobago’s LiveWIRE programme aims to build the capability of new entrepreneurs providing innovative and transformative products and services,” said Leslie Bowrin, Shell Trinidad external relations advisor. “I was quite impressed with the range of businesses and the innovative concepts presented at the Shell LiveWIRE weekend. This LiveWIRE weekend is an excellent addition to the Trinidad and Tobago Shell LiveWIRE programme.”

Over the course of two days, LiveWIRE Trinidad & Tobago welcomed 16 entrepreneurs into their programme with a weekend devoted to learning about LiveWIRE and each other. Participants shared more about themselves and their business, including their business goals, what they hope to accomplish in the programme, and specific connections they would like to make.

The second day gave the new LiveWIRE entrepreneurs a chance to network with representatives from the agri-food processing industry, enterprise support organisations, business coaches and more. The LiveWIRE team decided to introduce this networking component based on feedback from last year’s graduates.

“Last year, we asked our cohort graduates what would most distinguish a Shell LiveWIRE Programme from any other entrepreneur support programme,” said Danielle Morong Johnson, project coordinator with Youth Business Trinidad & Tobago, LiveWIRE Trinidad’s implementation partner. “Two words were key in the responses – ‘access’ and ‘people’. We’ve summed that up to be ‘meaningful connections.’ Hosting a networking session allows for synergies beyond a classroom environment and personalises the experience.”

Looking ahead, the LiveWIRE team will use the insights generated from the weekend event to shape the 2020 workshops, ensuring the training aligns with each entrepreneur’s need.
